2006 Minority Student Intern Program

Dear Student Journalists:

The Virginia Press Association’s Journalism Education Committee wants you to consider applying for the 2006 Minority Student Intern Program.

The program allows two minority college students to work as paid summer interns for a period of 4-10 weeks at either the Daily Press in Newport News or the Richlands News-Press in southwest Virginia. The interns perform the tasks any staffer would do -- handling obituaries, writing brief announcements and feature stories, taking photographs, etc. The idea behind this program is to expose students to the "real world" of journalism.

Please download the application package, and return it to our office by January 6, 2006. Please make sure that you include the required accompanying forms in your mailing. A checklist of necessary forms and eligibility requirements is included in the application package..
