Nominations Wanted for First Amendment Award

The Virginia Press Association is seeking nominees for its annual First Amendment Award, which honors efforts to preserve First Amendment and Freedom of Information rights in Virginia.

Winners of last year’s inaugural award were Forrest M. Landon, retired executive director of the Virginia Coalition for Open Government, and Lawrence K. “Lou” Emerson, former co-publisher of The Fauquier Citizen in Warrenton and The Culpeper Citizen.

A nomination form may be obtained from the VPA Web site, www.vpa.net, by clicking on the “Association Services” link.

The deadline to submit nominations is Jan. 18, 2008. A panel will select the winner. The winner and his or her nominator will be notified, and the award will be presented at the closing banquet of the VPA News Conference and Annual Meeting next March in Roanoke.

For more information about the award, please contact Ginger Stanley, VPA executive director, at (804) 521-7575 or through e-mail at gingers@vpa.net.
